The Turbulent History of Arab Nations at the World Cup

From historic breakthroughs to unforgettable defeats, Arab nations have built a distinctive story at the FIFA World Cup. Drawing on *Yalla: The Turbulent History of Arab Nations at the World Cup*, this talk looks beyond the pitch to explore how football intersects with culture, politics, identity, business, technology, and media. Spanning North Africa and the Gulf, it considers how the region’s World Cup journey reflects wider social and political transformations across the Arab world.
