The Sun of My Existence: New Composition Within Classical Arabic Music and Poetry

In this talk, Faraj Abyad explores themes from his new album, The Sun of My Existence, focusing on its poetry, musical influences, and maqam theory. He examines how visual art, life experiences, storytelling, and meaningful human connection shape his compositional process. Faraj also discusses the history of Andalusian poetry and the poetic meters of classical Arabic verse. The talk concludes with an interactive performance with Faraj Abyad and Namisa Sun.
