Old Centers, New Centers: Architecture, Representation, and the Arab City

In conjunction with the "Learning from Gulf Cities" exhibition on view at 19 Washington Square North from March 28 to April 15

Cities of the Gulf region, often spectacular in their way, need to be understood in their wide variation from one another and also for the way their patterns of social and physical arrangements are in interaction with urban development elsewhere in the world. This lecture offers examples of both variation and continuity, as well as understandings of past patterns and those more recently emerging.
